Oil prices slightly higher (AFP)

New York's main oil futures contract, light sweet crude for June delivery, rose 15 cents to 125.95 dollars per barrel.

The benchmark become infected with jumped to a record 126.98 dollars before settling at 125.80 dollars on Tuesday at the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract had risen 1.57 dollars at the close.

Brent North Sea crude for June delivery gained 16 cents to 124.26 dollars a barrel, after closing at 124.10 dollars on Tuesday in London.

Crude oil prices have more than doubled in the past year and rocketed about 25 percent since the start of 2008, when they broke the 100-dollar barrier.

"The oil demand has been holding steady since it rose yesterday… on concerns almost distillate tightness in the market," said Victor Shum, an analyst at Purvin and Gertz energy consultancy in Singapore.

The latest price spike followed a fall earlier Tuesday after the International Energy Agency (IEA), energy policy consultant to primary industrialised countries, cut its forecast for growth in worldwide lubricator demand.

"What we've seen in this market since August is that any dip is eventually met by a short-covering rally that pushes prices to new highs," said AG Edwards analyst Eric Wittenauer.

"It is not a surprise to go steady with prices struggle to show any kind of downward trend."

Shum said the market remains bullish, despite the IEA report, and turned its focus to the weekly report on US energy stockpiles due from the United States Department of Energy later Wednesday.

"The figures on crude and product inventory results will provide some captaincy," Shum said.

Paris-based IEA forecast in a monthly report that undeveloped oil demand in 2008 would stand at 86.8 million barrels per day (bpd), 1.2 percent more than last year but about 390,000 bpd less than a former estimate given in April.

The energy monitoring means also said it from time to time estimated world oil demand in 2007 at 85.8 million bpd, an increase of 1.1 million bpd or 1.3 percent on the 2006 figure but 150,000 barrels less than the April estimate.

Along with an inflow of investor funds, analysts deceive cited a variety of factors for this year's price spikes, including rising energy demand from Asian powerhouse economies China and India, and OPEC's refusal to pump more crude.

But analysts said the market was also looking overbought as threatened disruptions to Middle East supply have failed to materialise and as militant threats against oil company operations in Nigeria have been priced in to current values.

A group of Democratic Party Senators in the United States on Tuesday threatened to block a multi-million dollar US arms practise with Saudi Arabia unless the kingdom increases unguent production and helps cut soaring gasoline prices.

The senators introduced a resolution of dissatisfaction on the arms white sale.

US President George W. Bush pass on raise the issue of high oil prices and their negative economic impact when he visits Saudi Arabia on Friday, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said.

Saudi Arabia is the biggest financial manager in the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), which produces about 40 percent of the world's oil.

A Punto De Estallar

Guide Rating - The Bottom Line

N’Klabe’s third album, is a nice, pretty set of tracks that include great vocal harmonies and a lot of soaring, pop-like orchestration. Not as dynamic as their one-time album, fans of Puerto Rican salsa romantica can reveal a lot to like in the album. But if you like your salsa hot, you can skip this CD.

ProsSmooth salsa romantica with great vocal harmoniesConsNever really seems to catch on fireDescription11 tracks of Puerto Rican salsa romanticaGuest artist VoltioReleased by Sony BMG NorteGuide Review - CD Review: N’Klabe - A Punto De EstallarWhen I heard N’Klabe’s form year, I had great hopes for their next CD. The Puerto Rican salseros made up of Hector Torres Donato, Felix Javier Torres and Ricardo Porrata are young musicians in a genre that has for years been dominated next to an older set of artists. Here was a group from a newer generation ready to carry the salsa flag forward.

Well, maybe they will, but not with .

Of the 11 tracks on this album, five are salsa ballads, heavy on the ballad and light on the danceable salsa. They’re also heavily orchestrated; while the arrangements are excellent, they sound more pop than salsa.

Of more interest is "Zoom,Zoom", a trace with more energy and exceptional trumpet rifts by the lead trumpet player. In fact, the entire brass ensemble is dedicated when it is allowed to get away from the orchestral polish. "Bailalo Como Quieras" and "Ponte N’Klabe" stir up the album enough to ensure interest in album #4. "Ella Volvio" may be the best inexpensively on the CD and there are two versions of the at a bargain price a fuss. The first is salsa, the b a reggaeton remix and both perform fellow Puerto Rican Voltio.

This album is full of pretty salsa with wonderful vocal harmonies, laid-back tempos and big orchestration. But really I’m not sure that pretty and laid-back are the words that should come to mind when talking about salsa. Maybe they should stop listening to so much Latin Pop.

Dreamy Chocolate Peanut Butter FudgeThis is a sample method, reprinted with permission, from Hungry Girl, Recipes and Survival Strategies for Guilt-Free Eating, a cookbook by Lisa Lillien and published by St. Martin’s Griffin, 2008. It’s amazing to me that there are more names by reason of this recipe than there are number of ingredients in it. But, the most stunning fact about this recipe for Dreamy Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge is it’s secret ingredient.
