Fudge Brownies

These deliciously rich dairy-free brownies keep all of the good stuff and leave out the rest! Prepared with dark dairy-free chocolate and mejool dates in place of the butter and eggs, this recipe is one that has become a staple at my cookouts, potlucks, picnics and birthday parties, as they are arrant for dairy-free, egg-free and vegan diets, and, well, they are absolutely wonderful. Try mixing an extra recipe of the wither ingredients and keep the mix in a small airtight container in the pantry for quick brownie fixes!

For uncommonly fudgy brownies, ice the cooled brownies with ganache.

Makes on 8"x8" square pan of brownies

INGREDIENTS:1 cup chopped pitted Mejool dates1 cup boiling water1 cup flour½ cup white sugar¾ t. baking powder¼ t. salt½ cup plain unsweetened soy yogurt2 cups dairy-free dark semi-sweet chocolate chips (about 12 oz.)1 t. vanillaPREPARATION:

1. Preheat the oven to 350 F. Lightly oil an 8”x8” square cake pan and dust with cocoa powder, tapping out the excess.

2. Place the dates in a small bowl or mug just ample enough to fit, and pour the boiling H over refresh. Let the dates soak as 20-30 minutes, or until very soft.

3. Meanwhile, in a medium-sized mixing wheel, strain together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

4. In a small stainless steel mixing bowl set over (but not poignant) a small saucepan of boiling water, combine the soy yogurt and chocolate chips, stirring occasionally until all of the chocolate has melted, with 5-7 minutes.

5. Place the dates and wetting liquid in a blender and blend until creamy. Add this to the dry ingredients along with the chocolate mixture and vanilla and mix until just combined. Pour clobber into the prepared pan and bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes excuse clean, about 30-35 minutes. Once cool, ice with dairy-free ganache if desired.

Granulated or "sugared" honey is partially or wholly solidified honey crystals.

Creamed honey adds finely crystallized honey to liquid honey and has a smooth texture.

Comb honey includes the honey and comb as stored by the bees and can be served as is or cut into chunks.

New US-Canada salmon agreement proposed

OLYMPIA, Wash. A experimental agreement to prevent overfishing of salmon in Canada and Alaska has been proposed.

The new 10-year agreement to be announced Thursday could most effect Chinook salmon, which migrate from Washington state north to the waters of British Columbia and Alaska, where they often land a put caught by sport and commercial fisheries, preventing their return to Washington’s waters.

Under the proposed change to an existing salmon treaty, the U.S. would give Canada $30 million for its effort to knock down commercial salmon fishing; Alaska would receive about $7 million. Washington would pick up about $7 million in federal money to improve Chinook habitat, nation officials told The Associated Press.

The agreement needs to be approved by Congress and the Canadian government.

Ellen to Marry Despite McCainÂ’s Beliefs

By now you’ve probably heard that Ellen DeGeneres, host of , is planning to marry her longtime partner actress Portia de Rossi () following the California Supreme Court’s recent decision that – hey, that’s okay, right?

Well, likely presidential candidate Sen. John McCain visited Ellen on her show Thursday and wished Ellen “every cheeriness” – but added that “the unique status of merger between a man and woman” is what he believes is the only appropriate form of the convention. He did add that he was okay with same-sex couple having the opportunity to border on together in some constitutional fashion for insurance and other purposes.

Ellen tried to advance him to see the actually of that matter, saying, “We are all the word-for-word people, all of us. You’re no different than I am. Our love is the same. When someone says, ‘You can have a contract, and you’ll still have insurance, and you’ll get all that,’ it sounds to me like saying, ‘Well, you can sit there, you just can’t be a member of there.’”

This is one of those hot button issues, but I think we can press those buttons. What do you think of this issue? Why not share your thoughts in the comments division?

Racing Legends Haunt Brooklands

From Tony and Michele Hamer,
Your Guide to Classic Cars.

The Brooklands racing track, just 20 miles south west of London, is known as the birthplace of British motors sports, and is the oldest racing course in the United Kingdom, But the Brooklands has gained another claim to fame – it’s haunted by racing legends.

Opened in 1907, Brooklands was the world’s first purpose built motor racing circuit and there were no previous examples to follow. Many of the rules and procedures were based on horse racing in order to try and attract a ready made audience to this new and quite curious sporting venue.

Over the years, Brooklands turned into the place for spectators to contemplate many valiant attempts for speed records from goggled faced drivers wearing leather jackets and white scarves. After three decades, the circuit was closed and converted to manufacture aircraft during the Second World War, but never recommissioned for racing. Today, Brooklands attracts visitors to view the leftover girth, their racing museum and an airplane hanger that houses 30 historic aircraft.

Legend has it that a small number of racing drivers, motorcyclist and pilots still frequent the grounds as apparitions, and the haunting figures have earned Brooklands the title of being one of the most haunted sites in England. Instead of calling in an exorcist, the museum has organized a night time Torchlight Tours for extraordinary lovers and racing fans around the site which has been quite popular.

One of the most famous ghosts that allegedly haunt the site is Percy Lambert, who in 1913 was the first man in the world to cover 100 miles in one hour behind the wheel of an automobile. On October 31st, Lambert tried to regain his title after it had be beaten, but vanished control of his car and crashed into a wall near Members’s Bridge – a part of the track that in any event exists today. It has been said that sounds of a car explosion have been heard coming from Member’s Bridge, but when the staff rush out to see what has happened, there is nothing to be seen. Lambert himself has been reportedly seen walking the track on Halloween.

A local twelve year old boy said he witnessed a figure stumbling around the track with his head dangling in front of him. The staff at Brooklands claims that the apparition must be JG Perry Thomas. While attempting to break the World Land Speed Record in 1927 at the track in his 27 liter, aero-engined special named Babs, Perry lost control when his constrain work out snapped. The passenger car rolled several times and partially decapitated him.

The next batch of Torchlight Tours are scheduled for November and December. For more information take Brooklands, you can call in their website.

Guide Rating -

One of dance music’s long-lasting divas, Taylor Dayne makes a welcome return to the team up section with "Beautiful," the leading single from her full-length album "Satisfied" available in stores and online now. Of the three remixers chosen to tackle the song, Hex Hector proves to be the winner, in this reviewer’s opinion. A fantastic two-minute build crescendos towards the ineluctable drop-out and resultant vocal ad-libbing from Ms. Dayne, while the synth work and basslines sound pleasantly reminiscent of his work with Mac Quayle years ago. Going for more of a circuit sound, Scotty K takes the song in a lighter direction, complete with synth, piano, and even Hammond B3-esque strings in the verses.

Newcomers Speakerbox take their remix in more of a dubby management, for both the Club Mix and their Deep Club Mix. Neither mix includes full vocals; both feature the chorus looped a few times (almost as an afterthought) over the beats; ditto the radio edit. Definitely not a peak-hour anthem, I would’ve originate Speakerbox’s remixes much more enjoyable with full vocals.

The second batch of "Beautiful" remixes unfortunately proves to be an exercise in homogeneity, as a fuse of samesy tribal mixes assaults listeners’ ears once again with their paralipsis on beats at the expense of actual musical elements. Jeff Barringer’s mix holds the dubious honor of being the most distinct of these: an electro journey which would’ve been much better improbable with a put up beat and some nice sustained synth lines. Mike Cruz’s interchange probably would work on a big-room sound system in a club at 3am, but listening to it on your computer or headphones just doesn’t bring much nervousness to the mix. The RJ Club Mix proceeds along those same lines, while the random dissonant chords of Eddie’s Anthem Mix waver uncertainly between keys, never moderately finding the F-minor goal that is the song.

As of press at all times, the full remix parcel for "Beautiful" is scheduled for commercial release on February 26, 2008. Taylor’s new album "Satisfied" seems poised to potentially spawn at least one more single with club remixes for dance music fans. This reviewer hopes she teams up once again with one of her long without surcease staples Love To Infinity, who’ve remixed not only "Say A Prayer" but also "Tell It To My Heart" in 2 different versions: the 1995 US-only remixes, and the UK-exclusive MASH mix, released in 2002 on DMC.

For more news on Taylor Dayne, www.taylordayne.com is one of the overcome artist sites I’ve seen in recent memory. The News section in particular is a wealth of information, with interviews, Billboard statistics, video links, exclusive photos, radio shows, magazine scans, and personal messages from the artist. Plus no annoying Flash graphics or obviously bells & whistles to freeze computers and obstruct users – just functional solid information on Taylor Dayne that fans should find quite interesting. Every music website should be this user-friendly.
